08/10/2026 22:54:00

The Treasury Department will issue a commemorative coin for the 2026 International Monetary Fund-World Bank meetings, reviving a tradition from the country's first hosting in 1991.

The coin marks Thailand's second hosting of the meetings, scheduled for Oct 12-18, when more than 15,000 delegates are expected to attend.

Akkaruth Sandhyananda, director-general of the department, said Thailand issued a 100-baht coin for the 1991 meetings, featuring King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

For the 2026 meetings, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas proposed producing another 100-baht coin of the same size, featuring HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn and HM Queen Suthida.

The design reflects Thai heritage and the global financial theme of the meetings, incorporating traditional motifs and flowing lines representing financial flows and economic connectivity.

The coins are an international tradition for major global meetings and are popular with delegates and collectors.

The event will also provide the nation with an opportunity to showcase its heritage while generating economic activity.
